For most parents, newborn hearing tests are just a formality. They are a courtesy service provided in the hospital – just days after welcoming your baby into the world. But what happens if your new bundle of joy fails these routine hearing exams?

If you’re one of those parents, learning that your newborn may be deaf or hard of hearing can come as a devastating shock. And that’s assuming your baby has been properly tested in the first place.

As a parent, learning that your child has hearing loss can be devastating. Even worse is the realization that technologies like hearing aids may not be enough. But there are other solutions.

It’s never too early to have your child’s hearing tested. CCHAT’s curriculum is designed to help your child overcome their hearing challenges and matriculate into a mainstream school.

Although no known technology can completely restore hearing, hearing aids and cochlear implants can help improve your child’s ability to hear and communicate.

With proper testing, fitting, and training – hearing aids can transform one’s life. By amplifying the sound that travels through the ear’s passageway, hearing aids allow more information to reach the auditory nerve and brain.

Most assistive hearing devices work by amplifying sound. Hearing aids, for example, help boost auditory signals – allowing more information to reach the brain for processing. And with proper fitting and training, these devices can help with the user’s hearing ability.

This special event was a 24-hour online giving challenge on May 3, 2018 that brought the community together to help raise money and shine a spotlight on all the great work nonprofits are doing in our region. This year marked CCHAT’s 4th year participating in the Big Day of Giving.
